The most basic cause for winds to blow is the existence of a pressure difference between two locations on the earth. A wind is nothing but movement of gases from one place to another. So when there is a low pressure area the gases from high pressure area move to occupy that area and hence the wind blows.

2. In India wind energy is harnessed in the following states:  Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat,         Karnataka, Andhra pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala and Rajasthan.

If you were to visit KANYAKUMARI, the farthest point of the india mainland, you can see wind farms in the way and also in distance from the VIVEKANAND MEMORIAL.

The uneven heating of atmospheric gases creates the pressure zones.Gases after being heated move in upward direction and other comparatively cooler gases from the surrounding rush to fill the vacant space and this phenomenon hauls the wind blow.

In India, the wind energy is harnessed near Kanyakumari,Tamil Nadu.

Wind power is viable by setting up wind mills.

Power of water flow is generated by setting up hydraulic structures and hydro power plants.

In both cases, the cost of developing and deforestation and it's consequences are the main hindrances.
