What is the basic difference between acidic medium and alkaline medium?

Acidic medium has a pH less than 7 but alkaline or basic medium has pH more than 7. acids are sour and bases are bitter. acids increase number of H+ ions in a solution whereas alkaline or basic medium increases number of OH- ions is a solution
