\textbf{Your Answer}>>>

\textbf{Adsorption}>>>

✔ It is the phenomenon of higher concentration of particles of gas or liquid on the surface than in the bulk of the solid.

✔ The concentration on the surface of the adsorbent is different from that in the bulk. Therefore it is a surface phenomenon.

✔ Adsorption is rapid in the beginning and it's rate slowly decreases.

\textbf{Absorption}>>>

✔ It is a phenomenon in which the particles of gas or liquid get uniformly distributed throughout the body of the solid.

✔ The concentration is the same throughout the material. Therefore, it is a bulk phenomenon.

✔ Absorption occurs at uniform rate.

\textbf{Activation Of Adsorbent}>>>

It means the increasing of the adsorbing power of adsorbent. It is very necessary to increase in the rate of adsorption.

✔ Metallic adsorbents are activated by making the surface of adsorbent rough. This is done by mechanical rubbing or by subjecting them to some chemical reactions.

\bf Adsorption

Adsorption is a surface process that leads to transfer of a molecule from a fluid bulk to solid surface. This can occur because of physical forces or by chemical bonds. Usually it is reversible (the reverse process is called desorption); then it is responsible not only for a subtraction of substances but also for release.

\bf Absorption

When one substance enters the volume or bulk of another substance, this process is Absorption. Solid soaks the liquid or gas rather than any forces applied on molecules. The substance which gets absorbed is called absorbate and the substance which absorbs is called the absorbent. Absorption can be a chemical or a physical process.

  • Activation of an adsorbent means, increasing the adsorbing power of the adsorbent. Metallic adsorbents can be activated by making their surface rough by mechanical rubbing or by chemical action. By doing so, it will increase the specific area of the adsorbent.
