What is the basicity of nitric acid ?

Hello Friend,

Basicity of any acid refers to the number of H+ ions formed in aqueous solution.

Here, Nitric Acid is HNO3

HNO3 → H+ + NO2-

As only one H+ ion is formed,
basicity of HNO3 is 1

=> Basicity of an acid means the number of hydronium ions (H3O)+ ions that can be produced by the ionisation of one molecule of that acid in aqueous solution.
