Sociology is an interesting optional and I would say scoring too. I scored 220 in 2015 attempt( pretty decent for that year , this is before optional marks skyrocketed) , 260 in 2016 attempt and 270 in 2017 attempt.
Syllabus is compact , so you can prepare in 6 months of time, provided you are reading from right sources. During my preparation , I joined a local institute in my city but my experience was really bad. Not all the syllabus was covered and the teacher who was supposed to teach was often replaced by some other teachers ( his old students). So ,after 3 months I was still clueless.
So I started preparing on my own. I read some of the toppers strategy online and mock test papers. I started with basic ncerts , IGNOU notes and then switched to basic standard books like Harlombus and Holborn , Ritzer . I made sure that I consolidated from every source I read so I made my own notes. I prepared 10–15 pages from each topic , it made revision extremly easy as I was able to revise the whole syllabus even 1 day before the exam due to my concise notes.
