What is the best way to putt off the fire caused by oil?
Answers
Answer:
Try to remove oxygen from the flame by covering with another pot or a baking pan. If you can't cover it, smother the fire with a generous amount of baking soda or salt until it's extinguished. If the fire is too big for smother, baking soda, or salt, use a fire extinguisher.
Answer:
Assuming the fire is still small and contained in the pan, turn off the heat immediately. Then take a damp tea towel or hand towel and cover pan so that the fire is starved of oxygen.
It's important that the towel is wet enough so that it will not burn but not so wet that water is dripping at all. Soaking the towel quickly under the tap and giving a good, quick wring will do the job.
If you have a carbon dioxide or foam based fire extinguisher you can use that though quite honestly if you catch the fire quickly enough the towel method will be just as effective and a lot less messy.
As Garrick Saito states, under no circumstances ever tackle a flammable liquid (eg oil) fire with water. You will be very unpleasantly surprised by the consequences.
A few things to consider.
1. Do not attempt to move the pan. Disturbing the oil might have all sorts of explosively unpleasant consequences. Leave the pan for a long time to cool down before attempting to move it - near boiling liquids can form layers of different temperatures which can spontaneously and "explosively" boil over if disturbed.
2. Don't take any chances. If the fire is anything like established or out of control (ie the room or ceiling is filled with smoke) then shut the door, evacuate the house and call the fire brigage (in
