Though the concept of democracy in modern United States was taken from the concept of people participation in the formation of government in ancient Greece, there are some differences.
There was the system of direct democracy in Athens.
People participated directly to form the government in Athens.
But in US, people choose their representatives and the chosen representatives participate in formation of the government.
