what is the cause of aurora borealis? What is the theory behind the change in colours of it?​

a natural electrical phenomenon charecterized by the appearance of streamers of reddish or greenish light in the sky especially near the northern or southern magenetic pole.


mark422: That's only the cause. What is the reason behind the alternation of the blue, green or red colours?
kml41: this is caused by the interaction of charge particles from the sun with atom in the upper atmosphere
mark422: Okay I agree. But when the charged particles from the sun interact with the atom in the upper atmosphere, then why some of them are blue while the other is red or green?
kml41: interaction with nitrogen that is why some are blue in color
