Friction si a force which oppose the motion...It is a type of contact force...Which means there must be a two surfaces and there must be contact between these surfaces...It always act in the opposite direction of the motion...
Friction is caused due to IRREGULARITIES between the two surfaces...
Consider two surfaces...lets take two cells phones and put these cell phones in such a way that display of each phones are in contact with each other...Now move one surface you will find no opposition , You can slide a clphone easily...This is because , Surfaces are smooth and there are less irregularities between the surfaces...Here surfaces do not get interlocked each other , so phones easily slide...
The same reason we can think when we get slipped from the soapy floor...
Whatever object you see around you which are in their place and do not move is just because of frinctional force which holdd these object in their places...When we put our book on the table , it doesnt move itslef beacuse of interlocking between Book surface and a table' surface...
