Non-ideal solutions exhibit either positive or negative deviations from Raoult's law. ... These deviations are caused due to difference in intermolecular forces of attraction between solute molecules in pure solute, solvent molecules in pure solvent and solute and solvent in a solution.

Cause of negative deviation:

1) Negative deviation in any graph of the solution by Raoult's law means that the total vapour pressure of the initial liquid will be more than when it is compared to the total vapour pressure of the given solution.

2) If the solute of A-A bond and solvent of B-B is weaker than A-B bond of the solution i.e. solute and solvent are tightly bound to each other as they are to themselves when they were separated.

3) This type of solution will show a negative deviation from Raoult's law because for the solvent molecules it will be difficult to be separated from solution into the gas phase.
