The fission is defined simply as breakdown . Nuclear fission is the fission of the nucleus of an atom. The nucleus is the strongest unit and is made up of quarks . Quarks are bound so so strongly in the nucleus thay there is a very little chance to get them broken easily. When appropriate amount of energy is provided to nucleus for breakdown , this strong bond breaks down and releases a lot of energy. Thermodynamically we can say that we do the work to break this strong bond. This work done is stored in nucleus as the energy . As soon the nuclear fission takes place it releases tremendous amount of energy .
