Causes of Poverty:- [tex][/tex]

  1. British Colonialisation: The British rules for more than 200 years in India. It ruined the textile and handloom industries followed by population increase.
  2. Green Revolution: The fruits of the Green Revolution were sweet but it was limited to only a few parts of India, like, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, etc.
  3. Socio-cultural and Religious causes: People of India including the poor invest huge sums of money to observe religious things. The poors, i.e., the small farmers fail to invest in their production and they borrow. They fail and become victims of indebtedness.
  4. Huge income inequalities: The wealth in India in not uniformly distributed.
  5. Industries fail: People migrate in search of employment to different areas. But in urban areas too, factories and industries fail to provide a good job at a minimum decent level. Thus, it affects their living standards.
  6. Social Exclusion: This is both, consequence as well as cause of poverty.
