When I was deployed, we worked with a unit from down south. One day, one of the southern guys told us, “Y’all guys from Maine are okay, but you’re a little weird.” When asked why, he said, ”What does someone from Maine say when you say ‘Thank you’?”.
All of us looked at him and said, “Ayuh”.
It’s a regional thing for us. From many in New England, when you say “Thank you”, you get, “Yuh”, “Sure”, “No Problem”, or “Uh-Huh”.
It’s not considered rude, it’s just a terse, positive response.
