The technology was knownconsiderably longer ago than that--isolated copper axes and adzes areknown from Catalhoyuk in Anatolia and Jarmo in Mesopotamia by 7500 cal BC. But the intensive production of copper tools is one of the hallmarks of the Chalcolithic period.
