The Selfish Giant did not want the children to play in his garden as he believed it was his garden and his alone. His selfishness and his rude behaviour brought Winter, Snow and The North Wind to his garden, where they stayed even during spring due to the fact that spring avoided his garden because of the signboard on the garden wall which said that trespassers will be prosecuted. Even the little flower which poked it’s head out of the soil went back because of its sorrow for the children.

Explanation:

The Giant was called selfish because he wanted to keep his garden reserved only for himself. He banned the entry of outsiders there.
