The king of Siam adored his wife. He had many children. Nine daughters and four sons in all. He had a very inventive and methodical mind in the matter of naming his children. So he named them ‘Night’ and ‘Day’, then he named them after the four seasons of the year. Next he named them according to the names of the different days of the week. Later he named his daughters according to the names of the months. The queen did not oppose all this as she knew that it was not possible to change her husband’s mind. After that all the sons were named by alphabets.
The king had another unusual habit. He gave gifts to all the people who came to wish him on his birthday. He did not take any offering from his subjects. Due to his generosity there was a time when the royal treasury became empty.
As he did not have anything to give on one of his birthdays he gave a nice green parrot kept inside a golden cage to each daughter. The parrots were pretty and spoke two sets of words – ‘God save the King’ and ‘Pretty Polly’. The King was never tired of hearing the first phrase as he felt it conveyed a sense of enduring loyalty.

The king of Siam was a loving person. He cared much about his wife. He had nine daughters and four sons. He had a very strange way of naming his children. He used to find some method or a unique technique to choose their names. Cause of this he changed their names several times, he started from night and day than moved to seasons than changed again to days of the week. Than finally he changed their names to months names.
Another unique quality of the King was to gift the people who came to wish him on his birthday.
