mr gilman was the principle of Cambridge school for young ladies. He was as very patient, kind and intelligent young men who would always support helen. He was always ready to teach helen as his mentor. He was kind hearted person who was always concerned about her studies and education.During examination he used to patiently read out every question.Being a generous person he had even let helens's sister, milred study with her at cambridge. He had told helen's mother that he will reduce the pressure of helen's study by reducing her course to only maths.Due to this reason and some misunderstandings between him and miss sulivan helen's mother was forced to withdraw helen and her sister from the college.

Gilman plays an gigantic role in Helen's life,as Helen was so interested in joining Radcliff college being disabled child took a preparation course in Cambridge school as there was lack of facilities than compared to Perkins institution Helen put her efforts adversely and shocked to hear that Anne was the victim for Helen's poor performance then after Helen worked very hard proved in tests and examination then Gilman the advisor of Helen who accepted her course for 2 years extended it to 3 years because Helen being a disabled child working so hard may affect her health which made Helen's mother anger which made her disadmit Helen and Mildred from Gilman school
