Soda lime is essentially a mixture of sodium hydroxidecalcium oxide, andcalcium hydroxide. The first step is the reaction of butyric acid with soda lime to form sodium butyrate. Second is the decarboxylation of the sodium salt. The overall equation is the sum of the two equations.

The solid sodium salt of a carboxylic acid is mixed with solid soda lime, and the mixture is heated. and Whensodium acetate is heated with soda lime (NaOH+CaO), methane will be produced by decarboxylation.
hope it helps ❤❤
