\dashrightarrow The formula for Sodium Bicarbonate(Baking Soda) is \rm{NaHCO_3}

\large\rm{\underline{\underline{More\:To\:Know→}}}

Formation Of Baking Soda:-

It is prepared by reacting cold and concentrated solution of sodium chloride with ammonia and carbon dioxide.

\rm{NaCl+H_2O+CO_2+NH_3\longrightarrow\:NH_4Cl+NaHCO_3}

Properties:-

1. It is a mild non-corrosive base.The following reaction takes place when it is heated during cooking.

\rm{2NaHCO_3\overset{\tiny{Heat}}{\longrightarrow}Na_2CO_3+H_2O+CO_2}

2. It consists of white crystals and is sparingly soluble in water.

Uses:-

(a) For making baking powder, which is a mixture of baking soda and a mild edible acid such as tartaric acid. On heating in water, baking powder produces \rm{CO_2} which causes bread or cake to rise, make them softy and spongy.

\rm{NaHCO_3+H^+\longrightarrow\:CO_2+H_2O+{\small{Sodium\:salt\:of\:acid}}}

(b) Sodium hydrogencarbonate is also used as an antacid to remove acidity.

(c) It is also used in soda-acid fire extinguishers.
