If you heat CaCO3 you get CaO and CO2. The chalk probably gets powdery looking. If you are in a classroom, and heat a stick of chalk used for writing on a blackboard, you'll find it contains other stuff as well, probably some kind of glue to hold the chalk together. It gets ugly and smells bad.
