If Iron rusts, the chemical compound formed on the surface exposed to the atmosphere is : Iron (III) Oxide. It is called Ferric Oxide.
Formula: Fe₂ O₃.
We also find that rust has moisture in it. Then its formula is : Fe₂ O₃.(H2O)ⁿ.
Some part of moist rust also has another compound too:
It is Ferric Oxide - Ferric Hydroxide.
Fe O (OH) . Fe (OH)3.
