Answer:- Nitric acid is generally known as aqua fortis meaning strong water as it reacts with all metals and it can dissolve silver in it which doesn't dissolves in any other acids.

Chemically this acid is highly corrosive and it is a strong monobasic acid. It turns blue litmus to red, methyl orange to pink and phenolphthalein remains colorless. It neutralizes alkalis to form salts and water. For ex:- K2O+2HNO3---> 2KNO3+H2O.

It is also a strong oxidising agent and nascent oxygen formed on decomposition oxidises hydrogen to water. For ex:- 2HNO3 (conc.)----> 2NO2+H2O+(O).
