What is the classification is alluvial soil on the basis of their age? Mention their characteristics.

Apart from the size of their grains or components, soils are also classified on the basis of their age. According to their age, alluvial soils can be classified as old alluvial ( Bangar ) and new alluvial ( Khadar ).

Alluvial soils, on the basis of their transport­ing agency, may be grouped under following two broad categories:

(A) By Agency of Water-(i) Riverine allu­vium, (ii) Lacustrine alluvium, and (c) Coastal allu­vium.

(B) By Agency of Winds-(iv) Loess soils, and (v) Sandy Soils.
