Cleistogamy is one of the types of self pollination which occurs in a very few plants which do not open at all and grow at ground level. In such a pollination. the anther and stigma of the flowers lie close to each other and importantly mature at the same time and self-pollination is sure. One such plant in which self pollinations of this type occurs is Pansy.

In this pollination:

1. Characters of parent plants are preserved.

2.  Not even one pollen grain fail to pollinate.

3. Scent and nectar is not produced at all.

4. The flowers are not at all large and beautiful.

Cleistogamy:

Some flowers are self-pollinated even before the opening of flower such condition is called as cleistogamy.

[Note:- Cleistogamous flowers are always closed because of which self-pollination is the only method of pollination in these flowers.]
