The Thar desert is hot and dry and is severely short of water.

It's has extremes of hot and cold weather during summer when the days are very hot and the nights are chilly.

The reason for this quick change of temperature is that during the day, sand heats up very fast. And, during the night, sand cools down very quickly. Frequent dust storms on the long summer days keep people indoors.

As opposed to summer, days in winter and pleasant in the thar and nights are extremely cold. As there is no moisture im the dry winds of the desert, normally it does not rain in the Thar.

The rain water also seeps under the ground and fills up some streams.
