Sugarcane grows properly in high temperatures(21° to 27°)and high humidity (rainfall 75cm to 150cm),a long growing season (takes 15 to 18 months to mature). This plant can tolerate any kind of soil that can retain moisture. The alluvial soils rich in calcium are ideal

The favourable conditions for the growth of sugarcane are :

i) Temperature : Ideal temperature for growth of sugarcane ranges approximately from 20℃ - 30℃.

ii) Rainfall : Sufficient water is needed for growth of sugarcane and thus a rainfall of 100-150 cm is required

iii) Land : Well drained sloping land is suitable for sugarcane cultivation.

iv) Soil : Sugarcane grows best in fertile loamy soil, black soil and alluvial soil. It does not grow on alkaline soil.

v) Labour : It is a labour intensive method of cultivation. So labourers are needed for cultivation of sugarcane.
