Given:

2x^3 - 4x^4 + 5x^2 - x^5 + 3.

To find:

The coefficient of the highest power of x in the given polynomial.

Solution:

1) Polynomial is the algebraic expression which consist of the variable and coefficients.

2) Coefficients are the number of the variable. Now we have to consider the coefficient of the variable.

  • 2x³ - 4x⁴ + 5x² - x⁵ + 3
  • -x⁵ - 4x⁴ + 2x³ + 5x² + 3

Highest degree is 5

and its coefficient is -1

The coefficient of the highest power of x in the given polynomial is -1.
