Given :  2 x + y

To Find :  coefficient of x in the expression

Solution:

A number used to multiply a variable is called coefficient of the variable.

2x + y

=   (2)x  + (1)y

2  is the coefficient of  x

1 is the coefficient of y

Hence  coefficient of x in the expression 2 x + y    is  2

if expression is 2 -  x + y

Then

2 - x + y

= 2  + (-1)x  + (1)y

2 is constant

-1  is the coefficient of  x

1 is the coefficient of y

Hence  coefficient of x in the expression 2 - x + y    is  - 1
