Answer:

Alloys are used for making the coils in electric toaster and electric iron because alloys have higher melting point than pure metals. So, the coils made from alloys do not melt or get deformed and alloys do not get oxidized or burn readily at high temperatures

QUESTION :-

What is the coil of an electric iron made up of?

a. Steel

b. Brass

c. Bronze

d. Nichrome

ANSWER :-

d. Nichrome

EXPLANATION :-

An alloy used in making heating elements for electric heating devices is nichrome. It is an alloy of  nickel, chromium, ( and sometimes iron and other elements or substances). It is used as resistance wire. It is used so because nichrome does not oxidize and burn easily at high temperature i.e.it has higher melting and boiling point than metals. Thus it does not melt even when a large amount of heat is produced due to passage of current.
