Cold war was a race between USA and its supporting countries and USSR and supporting countries. It was a race to become more and more powerful. It was not a trure battle or war, it was passive and a race, so we call it "cold." It was a race to launch the first sattelite in space, to send the first human on moon, to develop the first ICBM, etc.
So Cold War was a race between USA and USSR for becoming most powerful and superpower. Both USA and USSR were superpowers. After USSR collasped, USA won the race and became and remains the only superpower in the world.
