NERVE CELL BODIES ARE MOSTLY TRANSPARENT, CONTAINING A RELATIVELY CLEAR JELLY-LIKE CYTOPLASM. MYELIN AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF AXONS IS A SHINY WHITE COLOUR AS IT REFLECTS LIGHT.

The interior of the central nervous system is organized into gray and white matter. Gray matter consists of nerve cells embedded in neuroglia; it has a gray color.
