Bile Pigments are chemical substances that are formed due to the breakdown of dead haemoglobins in RBCs. Bile Pigments include: Bilirubin and Biliverdin. They are produced in the liver and stored in our gall bladder (a small, sac-like gland inside the liver). Bile Pigments are used to digest the fats and to convert them to emulsified fats (Emulsified fats means fats of small molecules) for the ease of digestion. They are also used to convert acidic chyme to alkaline chyme with the help of Sodium Bicarbonate in it. They are yellow or green in colour due to the presence of Bilirubin in them.
