it has red brown color due to presence of bromine.
it used to distinguish between saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons.
saturated hydrocarbons does not discolourise bromine water but unsaturated hydrocarbons can discolourise bromine water.

☆The colour of the bromine is yellow to red mixture containg diatom bromine dissolve in water.
¤ it is uses a reactive in chemical assays of reconition for substance which react with withe bromine in an aqueous environment withe the hologenation mechanism.
