→→→OSI model and ATM model are two different computer network architectures.

→OSI Model
OSI model is introduced by ISO and therefore also called ISO OSI (International Standards Organization Open Systems Interconnection) model. It has seven layers. They are:
1) Physical Layer : This layer is used for bit transmission. Also, this layer is the bottom layer of this architecture.
2) Data Link Layer : In this layer, data is divided into frames and sent from source to destination. This layer has a sub layer called medium access control sub layer.
3) Network Layer : Network Layer transfers data in the form of packets. Routing is the task of this layer.
4) Transport Layer : Transport Layer is the layer responsible for end to end transmission of data. It contains protocols for transport.
5) Session Layer : This layer is used to establish sessions.

→ATM Model
Here, ATM stands for Asynchronous Transfer Mode. This model contains three layers. They are:
1) Physical Layer : Same as the physical layer in OSI model i.e. used for bit transmission.
2) ATM Layer : Obviously called Asynchronous Transfer Mode Layer. This layer performs the tasks of data link layer and network layer of OSI model.
3) AAL : It stands for ATM Adaptation Layer. It may be AAL Type 0, AAL Type 1 (initial stage), AAL Type 2, AAL Type 3/4 (not present) or AAL Type 5 (recent stage). This layer performs the tasks transport layer and some of the other layers of OSI model which are not needed always.
