Baeyer's reagent is an alkaline solution of cold potassium permanganate named after the German organic chemist Adolf Von Baeyer. It is a powerful oxidant .

It is used for converting alkenes into vicinal diols.

Hope this helps u...:)

ssara: can we consider potassium dichromate as this baeyer's reagent too??
Anonymous: No, as potassium permanganate is only baeyer's reagent
ssara: actually i read that it is also used for the same purpose...........
Anonymous: But it is not baeyer's reagent.
ssara: thanks for clarification:)
