The chemical composition of protoplasm is very complex. It varies from one organism to another although the common elements included in the composition of protoplasm such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, iron and phosphorus are the same in all cells. These elements are in the form of water,proteins, carbohydrates, fats and mineral salts. It is also true that it is impossible to make an accurate analysis of protoplasm because it ceases to be protoplasm as soon as it is removed from an organism.
