Composition. The size of the State Legislative Council cannot be more than one third of the membership of the State Legislative Assembly. However, its size cannot be less than 40 members. These members elects the Chairman of Legislative Council and Deputy Chairman.

The legislative council consists of not more than 1 /3 of total strength of Legislative Assembly of state and not less than 40 members.
The members of the Legislative Council are elected as well as nominated. Broadly speaking 5/6 of total members of the Legislative Council are indirectly elected and 1/6 is nominated by the Governor.
