What is the compressibility factor (z) for 0.02 mole of a van der waals' gas at pressure of 0.1 atm. Assume the size of gas molecules is negligible. Given: rt = 20 l atm mole1 and a = 1000 atm l2 mol2?

Compressibility factor i.e Z = PV/RT

According to van der waal's equation, a =PV2/n2

Substituting, a=1000, P=0.1 atm, n=0.02 mol

We get, V=2 lit

Putting this value in the equation Z = (PV/RT) = [(0.1 x 2)/20] = 0.01
