Convex mirror:

The outer surface of the spherical mirror is reflecting.

It forms virtual and erect images.\

The image formed is always smaller than the actual size.

Its focus point lies at behind its reflecting surface

Concave mirror:

The inner surface of the spherical mirror is reflecting.

It forms a real-inverted image and also virtual-erect pictures.

The image formed can be larger or smaller than the actual size.

Its focus point lies at the front of its reflecting surface

Explanation:

The differences between concave and convex mirror are

  1. The concave mirror forms both real and virtual images depending on the position of object while convex mirror always forms virtual image irrespective of the position of the object.
  2. The size of image formed by concave mirror may smaller or bigger than or equal to object but the convex mirror always produces smaller image in size than the object.
  3. The reflecting surface of concave mirror is curved inward and the reflecting surface of convex mirror curved outward.
  4. The focal distance and radius of curvature is taken as positive for concave mirror while the same are taken as negative for convex mirror in sign convention.
