What is the consequence of the media ‘setting the agenda’ by reporting on the Fashion Week rather than the slum demolitions?
Answers
Answer:
Media influences our thoughts and moulds our attitudes to a great extent.
When we say media sets the agenda it means media itself decides what it needs to focus on and which news piece to be shown. It is eventually that news item which is shown to us and grabs our attention and influences our thought process.
For example Media at times focuses extensively on a fashion show or on any film release ignoring some crucial social issues like slum demolition, displacement of people etc. Therefore those issues do not receive our attention.
It makes us ignorant about the actual problems confronting our society. We fail to sensitize ourselves towards the problems at grass root level which demand our attention.
Due to the significant influence the media plays in out lives and in shaping our thoughts, it is said that the media 'sets the agenda'
the media focused on the fashion week rather than the slum demolitions because the media is constantly thinking of ways to make money . so the media will not be interested in covering 'small' topics like slum demolitions, polluted drinking water etc.
so the small local news channel decides to cover those 'small' topics and the show the public what's really going on in the lives of ordinary people.
