It is the contraction of protoplast of a plant cell as a result of loss of water from the cell. During this process cells lose water in a hypertonicsolution. When a living plant cell loses water Through osmosis, there is shrinkage or concentration of the protoplasm away from the cell wall.

the contraction of plant cell is called plasmolysis , it loses water when the out side solutions is more concentrated
