Answer:
Canals are used to transfer water from a particular source of water to the agricultural fields. It is an important form of irrigation which are cheaper than other methods.
There can be two types of canal irrigation systems:
1. Perennial canals- Water supply maintained throughout and hence named so. The water source is either rivers or reservoirs.
2. Inundation canals- Water source is generated from rivers but no regulatory method is present to control the flow of water from the rivers.
