Hey!

______________

Gregory Johann Mendel through his experiments discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance.
He discovered that gene comes in pairs and are inherited as distinct units, one from each parent.
And now, that is what we study.

He experimented on pea plant initially.
Because of some reasons, some reasons were -:

• Because pea plant can easily be cultivated in any type of soil.
• Pea plants show a number of contrasting characters.
• Cross pollination can be easily achieved in pea plant.
• Flowers are bi-sexual.
• A number of seeds can be obtained in a single season.

He selected seven contrasting characters -

• Height
• Flower position
• Seed colour
• Pod colour
• Pod shape
• Seed shape
• Flower colour

He introduced the law of dominance.
Dominant characters are the characters which express itself in first filial generation.
While, recessive characters are the characters which do not express itself in first filial generation or the ones which are suppressed in first filial generation.

He contributed a lot.
