What is the correct relationship between the pHs of
isomolar solutions of sodium oxide (pH₁), sodium
sulphide (pH₂), sodium selenide (pH₃) and sodium
telluride (pH₄)?
(a) pH₁ > pH₂ > pH₃ > pH₄
(b) pH₁ > pH₂ ≈ pH₃ > pH₄
(c) pH₁ < pH₂ < pH₃ < pH₄
(d) pH₁ < pH₂ < pH₃ ≈ pH₄

Answer: pH1>pH2>pH3>pH4

Acidic character increases in the order H2O<H2S<H2Se<H2Te

Basic character of conjugate bases will be in the  order  O2−>S2−>Se2−>Te2−

More the basic character, more the pH

 ∴pHs are in the order

pH1>pH2>pH3>pH4

Answer:

pH is a measure of how acidic/basic water is. The range goes from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. pHs of less than 7 indicate acidity, whereas a pH of greater than 7 indicates a base. pH is really a measure of the relative amount of free hydrogen and hydroxyl ions in the water.
