There's huge confusion as to which country faces the first sunrise,whether Japan or New Zealand.

Let me tell you the answer is Japan only.

There is an international date line.To the west is Japan while towards east is New Zealand.
The Earth rotates from west to east.The Earth starts from this Date line and moves west then to east.So Japan is the first country to the west of the Date line hence it gets the first sunrise.New Zealand has the early clock.But it doesn't get the first sunrise as it has early clock due to the GMT line not the International Date line.

So Japan is the answer.
