What is the criteria of mendeleev for his periodic table?
Answers
He arranged the elements by the increasing order of their atomic masses in rows and columns called groups and period.
He observed that there was a repetition of same chemical properties of elements in a group.
He even made a sub group by using names like 1A,1B.
He left empty spaces between elements because he believed that there were more than 67 elements (as found at that time) which were yet to be discovered.
Mandeleev gave the first periodic table of elements based on his law which states
"The properties of elements are the periodic functions of their atomic masses"
This enabled mandeleev to place 63 elements in vertical columns(groups) and in horizontal rows(periods). He predicted the existence of those metals which were yet to be discovered.
But this method could not explain the position of certain elements, the rare elements and the isotopes.
Hope it helps
