What does the crystal field splitting diagram for trigonal planar complexes look like? The x2−y2 and xy orbitals are on the same energy level. However, assuming that one of the Cl ligands lies on the y axis (or the x axis), wouldn't the x2−y2 orbital be higher in energy?
