Solution:

Let given number = A

If A is decrease by 25% of A, then:

Remaining amount of A = 100 -25 = 75% of A     ...1)

Equation 1) can be written as fraction:

\mathbf{Remaining\ amount\ of\ A= \dfrac{75\times A}{100}}

\mathbf{Remaining\ amount\ of\ A=0.75\times A}         ...2)

From above it is clear that A is multiply by 0.75 to decrease by 25%.
