It is a pure substance made up of same atom which cannot be broken down further any means.
Example- Gold, Oxygen, etc.
Compounds-
It is a pure substance made up of two or more element combined chemically in a fixed ratio by mass.
Example- Water, Carbon dioxide.

ELEMENT
An element is a pure basic substance that cannot be split into its constituent elements by chemical methods of separation.
It is made up of only one kind of atoms.
There are 118 elements known till date.
Eg. Phosphorus, sulphur etc.
COMPOUNDS
A compound is a pure substance made from a chemical combination of two or more elements in a definite proportion.
Eg. Water with two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen.
