hii friend......
i can differentiate....metals have the property of ductility(it can convert into thin sheets), they have the property of listure(shining), another property is that when metals are hitted by any object it produces sound which means property of shrilling (shrillness), these are the good conductors of heat and electricity........but non metals are just opposite to that of metals......
hope this will help u in making definition of metals and non metals.....
with regards
prachi.....

METALS-

1.They conduct electricity

2.don't get charged while rubbing

3.they also conduct heat

4.metals have the property of ductility(it can convert into thin sheets)

5. they have the property of listure(shining)

6.another property is that when metals are hitted by any object it produces sound which means property of shrilling (shrillness)

NON-METALS

1.'non metals' means 'not metals'

2.they don't conduct heat.

3.they don't conduct electricity

4.non metals, like plastic gets charged up while rubbing(you can experiment it by rubbing a comb on your hair {virgously}and then ypu can see it attracts papers)

5.&6.are the opposite properties of metals.

hope it helps,
best wishes...
